About the Role

About The Company

Our mission at Avelios Medical is to build the leading software platform for the data-driven digitization of hospitals and patient care. To do so, we have built a modular software platform that digitizes and optimizes workflows in hospitals with cutting-edge technology in a user-friendly way. With our software, we enable hospitals, doctors, and nurses to provide their patients with the best possible care. We are experiencing rapid growth and are committed to expanding our team and business to fundamentally digitize healthcare for the better. We value diverse backgrounds and see diversity as one of our core strengths, fostering an inclusive environment where innovation thrives.

About The Role

We are seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer (all genders) to join our infrastructure team at Avelios Medical. This pivotal role involves taking ownership of deploying and operating our healthcare software across both cloud and clinical environments. As a leader in our DevOps function, you will drive technical excellence, set standards, and guide the team towards building scalable, secure, and reliable systems. You will work closely with developers, product teams, and leadership to ensure our infrastructure supports our mission of transforming healthcare through innovative technology. This role is integral to how we build, deploy, and maintain our healthcare software at scale, directly impacting patient outcomes and operational efficiency in hospitals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience. Extensive experience in DevOps or infrastructure roles, especially within scalable or production-critical systems, is essential. Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience in DevOps teams is highly valued, along with the ability to guide and develop engineers. Deep expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Linux environments is required. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and modern DevOps toolchains, is necessary. A strong understanding of monitoring, alerting, and logging systems is also critical. Candidates should have a strong ownership mindset, a hands-on problem-solving approach, and an interest in working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of German is a plus but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the DevOps team, including mentoring, hiring, and establishing best practices to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Own the infrastructure strategy across both cloud and on-premise (clinical) environments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Design, build, and operate scalable, secure, and highly available systems that support healthcare operations.
  • Drive the implementation of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure-as-code practices to streamline deployment processes.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to enable efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Establish and improve observability, incident response, and fault tolerance practices to maintain system robustness.
  • Ensure compliance, security, and reliability standards are met within clinical environments, adhering to healthcare regulations.
  • Identify bottlenecks and continuously optimize performance, tooling, and operational processes to enhance system efficiency and reliability.

Benefits

  • Engage in a variety of tasks with the opportunity to take ownership and make a significant impact.
  • Join an international, informal team structure within a motivating startup atmosphere, contributing directly to customer growth and the overall success of Avelios Medical.
  • Gain valuable hands-on experience in a startup environment backed by leading international venture capitalists.
  • Support your personal and professional development through continuous learning, feedback, and growth opportunities.
  • Enjoy flexible working hours and trust-based time tracking to set your own rhythm.
  • Participate in a virtual stock option package (VSOP), giving you a stake in Avelios Medical's long-term success.
  • Benefit from a monthly meal allowance up to 75 euros, full coverage of the Deutschlandticket, Urban Sports Club or subsidized Wellpass membership, bike leasing options, and access to Corporate Benefits discounts across various providers.

Avelios Medical is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all employees are valued and respected. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
